Planning to attend the FIFA 2026 World Cup? Before you pack your bag and head to one of the 16 host stadiums across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, you need to know exactly what you can and cannot bring through the gates. FIFA’s stadium banned items list is stricter than most fans expect and getting it wrong could mean being turned away at the entrance entirely.

FIFA 2026 World Cup Stadium Banned Items — What You Can Bring In

FIFA has confirmed a set of permitted items that apply across all 16 host venues. Here is what makes the cut:

  • Clear bags — transparent plastic, vinyl or PVC only, maximum size 12″ x 6″ x 12″ (approx. 30cm x 15cm x 30cm)
  • Small wallets and purses — handheld wallets no larger than 6.5″ x 4.5″
  • Mobile phones and small personal devices
  • Headphones and earphones
  • Empty reusable water bottles (must be empty at the point of entry)
  • Sunscreen, hats and sunglasses — especially important for outdoor stadiums
  • Personal hygiene items such as hand sanitiser
  • Small flags without poles
  • Banners and posters — non-political, non-offensive, and not exceeding 1.5m x 2m
  • Baby items — formula, sealed snacks, and necessary equipment for infants (medical exceptions apply)
  • Prescribed medication — must come with a valid medical certificate in English, French or Spanish

FIFA 2026 World Cup Stadium Banned Items

The list of prohibited items is just as important if not more so. These are the things that will get you stopped at the gate:

  • Umbrellas — banned at all venues due to sightline obstruction and crowd flow concerns
  • Selfie sticks and tripods
  • Professional cameras and recording equipment
  • Liquids over 100ml (except baby items and sealed medication)
  • Outside food and beverages — no outside snacks unless for infant needs
  • Large or opaque bags — any bag that is not clear and within the permitted size limit
  • Flagpoles and banner poles
  • Noisemakers and air horns
  • Pyrotechnics of any kind — this includes flares, fireworks and smoke bombs
  • Weapons or sharp objects
  • Political or offensive materials
  • Drones

What Fans Should Know Before Arriving

Fans should expect airport-style security checks at every venue entrance. If you arrive carrying a restricted item, you may be asked to leave it at an external storage facility or simply discard it. There will be no second chances once you reach the front of the queue.

It is also worth noting that individual host stadiums may have their own additional rules layered on top of FIFA’s baseline guidelines. For example, Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts has published its own extended prohibited items list for its seven World Cup matches, and Hard Rock Stadium in Miami enforces a particularly strict clear bag policy with no outside food exceptions. Always check the specific stadium’s official page before heading out.

The tournament kicks off on June 11, 2026, with matches spread across cities including New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Toronto, Mexico City and more. For the complete official regulations, visit FIFA’s official 2026 World Cup page.
