APC Urges Diaspora Women to Drive Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda Ahead of 2027
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Surajudeen Basiru, has described Nigerian women in the diaspora as “strategic partners” whose influence, expertise and resources are critical to the success of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Basiru made the remarks while delivering the keynote address at the APC Diaspora/Global Women Summit 2026 held in Rome, Italy, where he praised diaspora women for their contributions to Nigeria’s development and the party’s future political engagements.
According to him, Nigerian women abroad are not merely supporters of government policies but key stakeholders with the capacity to shape national growth through investments, remittances, advocacy, skills transfer and professional expertise.
He highlighted the achievements of Nigerian women in fields including medicine, law, engineering, technology, entrepreneurship, finance, diplomacy and public service, describing their success abroad as evidence of the potential of Nigerian women when given opportunities.
The APC chieftain used the summit to highlight what he described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration, including the removal of fuel subsidy, increased crude oil production, local government financial autonomy and ongoing constitutional and security reforms.
Basiru also pointed to Nigeria’s foreign reserves, which he said had risen above $51 billion, describing it as the country’s highest level in about 17 years.
On infrastructure development, he mentioned major projects including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Lagos-Sokoto Super Highway and the reconstruction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road as initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic growth.
He noted that women serving in the Tinubu administration had played important roles in advancing the government’s agenda, stressing that gender inclusion remained a key part of the APC’s political direction.
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Basiru urged diaspora women to become more involved in civic engagement, promote accurate information about Nigeria, support democratic values, mentor younger women and strengthen the party’s international network.
“Your international connections, technical knowledge, financial resources and policy insights can contribute immensely to national development,” he said, describing diaspora women as ambassadors connecting Nigeria with the global community.
The APC National Secretary acknowledged the need for stronger and more continuous engagement beyond annual gatherings, promising improved platforms for dialogue, investment promotion, leadership development and policy discussions with diaspora chapters.
He said the party would continue to encourage women’s participation in leadership, governance, policymaking and electoral activities as part of efforts to build a stronger political structure.
By positioning diaspora women as strategic partners, the APC is seeking to deepen its relationship with Nigerians abroad and harness their influence, expertise and economic contributions as the country approaches another election cycle.
