Military veterans have held a crucial meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), demanding the immediate implementation of the approved N250,000 minimum wage for serving military personnel.
The veterans, under various associations, expressed deep concern over the delay in implementing the new wage structure, which was recently approved by the Federal Government.
During the meeting, the veterans highlighted the current economic realities, including high inflation and rising cost of living, which they say have made the previous salary structure unsustainable for military personnel and their families.
They urged the CDS to use his good office to ensure the new minimum wage takes effect without further delay, stressing that prompt implementation would boost the morale of officers and men serving in various operations across the country.
The veterans also commended the government for approving the wage increase but insisted that actual payment should commence immediately to address the welfare challenges faced by soldiers.
This demand comes amid ongoing discussions about the welfare of Nigeria’s security forces, who play critical roles in combating insurgency, banditry, and other security threats.
The Chief of Defence Staff is expected to convey the veterans’ concerns to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
Many Nigerians have shown support for the veterans’ position, arguing that well-motivated armed forces are essential for national security and stability.
As the economic situation continues to put pressure on citizens, the call for the timely implementation of the new minimum wage for military personnel is seen as both timely and justified.
