Nigerian troops have recorded a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected ISIS-linked Arab terrorist in Borno State following a failed infiltration attempt by ISWAP fighters.
According to TheRadarNewsNG, the arrest occurred during follow-up exploitation operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI after ISWAP attempted to attack Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area.
Military sources revealed that the suspect, believed to be a Moroccan national, was apprehended in Abadam Local Government Area within the Lake Chad Islands region. He was identified through forensic exploitation carried out with international partners after troops recovered a camcorder from the battlefield during the Cross Kauwa incident.
The device, believed to have belonged to a terrorist cameraman who was neutralised during the clash, contained video footage that aided in the suspect’s identification.
The arrested suspect was immediately airlifted by a Nigerian Air Force helicopter to a secure location for further interrogation and intelligence exploitation.
Security sources described the arrest as a major intelligence breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle ISWAP’s foreign support network and disrupt terrorist activities in the North-East.
Additional terrorist equipment, including HHR radios abandoned by fleeing ISWAP fighters, was also recovered during the operations.
This latest success highlights the intensified military operations in the region aimed at flushing out remnants of terrorist groups and their foreign collaborators.
Further details on the suspect and ongoing investigations are expected to be released by the military as operational considerations permit.
