Victor Osimhen injury Galatasaray Champions League
It was already shaping up to be a difficult night for Galatasaray at Anfield, but the
evening grew significantly darker when Victor Osimhen, the club’s talismanic
Nigerian striker, was withdrawn at the interval with a right forearm fracture.
The Turkish champions subsequently fell apart without their attacking focal point, conceding four times
in a match that ended their UEFA Champions League campaign with a chastening 4 0 defeat
a 4 1 aggregate scoreline sealing their elimination.
The drama began within the opening ten minutes.
While challenging for the ball, Osimhen absorbed what appeared to be an accidental knee from Ibrahima Konaté to his wrist, sending him crashing to the turf in visible distress.
The incident sparked a tense confrontation on the pitch Dominik Szoboszlai and the Nigerian nearly came to blows, with Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, and Mohamed Salah all drawn into the fracas. Galatasaray midfielder
Mario Lemina stepped in to cool temperatures before play resumed.
“Victor Osimhen is a passenger at the moment. He keeps looking over to the bench, and he is waiting for the substitution.”
Osimhen left the field briefly for treatment, returning with his right arm heavily bandaged.
He managed only seven touches and a single shot attempt across the opening 45 minutes, clearly hampered by the injury as Galatasaray’s defensive shape buckled under sustained
Liverpool pressure.
Medical checks at halftime confirmed the risk of a serious fracture, ruling him out of the second half entirely.
Club Confirms Fracture; Surgery Decision Pending
In an official post match medical statement, Galatasaray confirmed the worst.
Hospital examinations conducted under the supervision of the club’s medical team revealed a fracture
in Osimhen’s right forearm, with a cast subsequently applied.
The club noted that a decision on whether surgical intervention is required will be taken following further evaluation over the coming days.
Orthopedic specialists commenting on the case suggested the injury bore the hallmarks of an ulna fracture a bone particularly exposed to direct trauma given its proximity to the skin’s surface.
Reports also noted that Osimhen himself was resistant to leaving the pitch, a determination that left Galatasaray effectively playing a man short in terms of attacking output for much of the first period.

Noa Lang Also Stretchered Off
Osimhen’s injury was not the only medical concern to emerge from the night.
Dutch winger Noa Lang suffered a separate and gruesome setback late in the contest, his hand becoming trapped in the advertising hoardings behind the goal as he chased a lost cause.
The resulting wound a deep laceration to his right thumb left the winger bleeding on the pitch and requiring oxygen before he was stretchered away.
Lang was swiftly taken to a Liverpool hospital, where surgery on the detached thumb was deemed necessary
before the squad’s return to Istanbul.
Liverpool Advance; Galatasaray Reflect
With Osimhen sidelined and Galatasaray’s defensive resolve crumbling after the break,
Liverpool were ruthless.
Szoboszlai had drawn the hosts level on the night midway through the first half with a well-crafted set-piece finish off a Mac Allister corner.
Hugo Ekitike and Ryan Gravenberch then extended the lead in the second period, before Mohamed Salah who had missed a penalty just before the interval capped the rout with a late strike that sent Anfield into delirium.
Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk did not shy away from the impact of the injury, acknowledging that losing his lead striker fundamentally altered his side’s ability to threaten.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot also conceded that Osimhen’s absence gave the Reds a notable advantage in the second half.
The Turkish side now exit Europe and refocus on a domestic campaign, where they continue to chase a league and cup double.
As for Liverpool, they now prepare for a marquee quarterfinal clash against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain a mouthwatering tie that promises far sterner resistance than the Turkish outfit managed to mount at Anfield.
“He has a serious issue. They took him there quickly.
If an operation is needed, a decision will be made right here immediately.
One silver lining for Galatasaray: the injuries coincide with the international break, offering some additional recovery time before domestic fixtures resume.
Notably, Osimhen himself will not feature for Nigeria during the break the Super Eagles forward having already been left out of the squad for a four nation invitational tournament in Antalya.
