Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has stirred political debate after throwing his weight behind a governorship candidate of the opposition Allied People’s Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general election, despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The development followed the official affirmation of a new APM governorship candidate in Bauchi State, who publicly acknowledged Governor Bala Mohammed for supporting and mentoring him over the years.
In a statement released after his emergence, the candidate described the governor as a “leader and mentor” whose guidance and political support helped shape his leadership journey and inspired him to seek higher office.
He praised the Bauchi governor for recognising the potential of young political leaders and entrusting them with responsibilities that prepared them for future leadership challenges.
The candidate also thanked the leadership of the APM, party stakeholders, supporters, and residents of Bauchi State for endorsing his candidacy, promising to serve the state with humility and dedication if elected in 2027.
He called on other aspirants who contested the party’s governorship ticket to unite behind his ambition, saying the contest was over and the focus should now shift toward securing victory in the general election.
According to him, the next political campaign in Bauchi would focus on continuity, economic growth, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and renewable energy.
He further declared that the achievements recorded in Bauchi State over the last seven years under Bala Mohammed’s administration must be protected and expanded upon for the benefit of residents.
The endorsement is expected to generate fresh political reactions within the PDP and across Bauchi State, as observers question the implications of a serving PDP governor openly backing a successor from another political party.
