Peter Obi has mourned the death of veteran actor Olu Jacobs, describing the late film icon as a symbol of excellence in the Nigerian spirit.
Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, expressed his condolences in a tribute shared on his X handle on Thursday.
Jacobs’ family announced his death on Wednesday.
The former Anambra State governor praised Jacobs for his remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s film and creative industries.
He noted that the actor built a distinguished career spanning several decades in both Nigeria and Britain.
Obi described Jacobs as an accomplished professional whose career demonstrated the importance of talent, discipline, dedication and excellence.
“Olu Jacobs represented the excellence of the Nigerian spirit,” Obi said.
He added that Jacobs’ contributions had left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
According to Obi, the actor’s death is a reminder that life is temporary and that people should use their talents and responsibilities to make meaningful contributions to society.
“Whatever responsibility we are entrusted with, and whatever area we are called to contribute to society, we must give it our very best,” he said.
Obi also extended his condolences to Jacobs’ family, friends, colleagues and the wider Nigerian creative community.
“As we remember his life, times and passion, my thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues and the entire Nigerian creative community,” he said.
He prayed for strength and comfort for everyone mourning the veteran actor.
Obi also prayed for the eternal rest of Olu Jacobs and other departed souls.
“May the good Lord grant our father, Olu Jacobs, and all the faithful departed eternal rest. Amen.”
