Umo Eno has unveiled a major grassroots security initiative aimed at strengthening community policing and intelligence gathering across Akwa Ibom State by formally integrating Village Youth Presidents into the state’s security architecture.
The Governor made the announcement on Sunday, June 21, 2026, during a grand engagement with over 2,272 Village Youth Presidents drawn from the 31 local government areas of the state, held at the Uyo Township Stadium.
Governor Umo Eno described the move as a bold and decisive step to deepen security at the community level, especially in the face of rising insecurity across parts of the country. He stressed that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of the government.
“Today, another decisive and bold step has been taken to strengthen security in our dear state. Security remains a priority of every responsible government, and we will continue to deepen the protection of our people wherever they live.”
The Governor explained that Village Youth Presidents are strategically positioned in their communities to provide timely and credible intelligence that can help prevent criminal activities. He announced that the youth leaders will undergo comprehensive security training and will subsequently be formally recruited into the Ibom Community Watch.
Umo Eno directed the Commissioner of Police to develop a detailed training programme for the participants. He also introduced the mantra “See Something, Say Something and Win Something”, assuring the youth leaders that credible intelligence leading to the prevention of crime would be adequately rewarded.
To enhance rapid response capabilities, the Governor announced the deployment of ten Hilux patrol vehicles across the ten federal constituencies to serve as 24-hour quick response squads.
Umo Eno’s latest initiative demonstrates his administration’s commitment to community-driven security and deeper youth involvement in governance. By formally bringing Village Youth Presidents into the security framework, the state government aims to build stronger trust, improve vigilance, and sustain the prevailing peace in Akwa Ibom.
This move is expected to significantly boost intelligence gathering at the village level and serve as a model for other states seeking sustainable grassroots security solutions.
