Former England winger Raheem Sterling is set to appear in court next month over charges linked to a single-vehicle crash on the M3 motorway in Hampshire.
The 31-year-old has been charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and failing to provide a specimen.
Sterling is due before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 15, 2026.
The charges stem from a crash involving his Lamborghini on the M3 southbound near the Minley Interchange on May 28.
According to police, no other vehicles were involved and nobody was injured in the incident.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that Sterling was arrested at the scene and later released on bail while investigations continued.
Police had initially considered whether he was driving while unfit through drugs, but that allegation was not included in the final charges.
Sterling is currently without a club after most recently playing for Dutch side Feyenoord.
He joined Feyenoord on a short-term deal following a difficult spell at Chelsea, where he had fallen out of favour and was excluded from first-team training.
Before Chelsea, Sterling enjoyed a highly successful seven-year spell at Manchester City after joining from Liverpool in 2015.
He won four Premier League titles, five League Cups and an FA Cup during his time at the Etihad.
Sterling moved to Chelsea in 2022 and later spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Arsenal before returning to Stamford Bridge.
The forward also earned 82 England caps between 2012 and 2022, representing the country at three World Cups and two European Championships.
His September court appearance will be the next major step in the legal proceedings arising from the motorway crash.
