President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years in government, describing the milestone as a rare achievement in a democracy.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Tinubu said Modi’s political journey began in 2001 when he became Chief Minister of Gujarat. He served in that position for more than 12 years before becoming India’s Prime Minister in 2014.
Tinubu commended Modi’s contributions to infrastructure, digital public services, financial inclusion and innovation, saying his leadership had played a role in Gujarat’s development and India’s economic growth.
The Nigerian President also recalled Modi’s November 2024 State Visit to Abuja, during which Nigeria conferred on him the title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.
According to Tinubu, the visit strengthened cooperation between Nigeria and India in areas including trade and investment, energy, defence and security, healthcare, education and technology.
He described Nigeria and India as major democracies and influential members of the Global South, noting their shared interest in promoting a fairer and more representative international order.
Tinubu expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to expand under Modi’s leadership and wished the Indian Prime Minister good health, strength and success in his service to the Indian people.
