The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has named David Okumgba as its deputy governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the party’s Rivers State Chairman, Chukwudi Dimgba.
Okumgba will run alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson.
The ADC described the Pidomson-Okumgba ticket as a partnership built on competence, accountability and inclusiveness.
The party said the duo shares a common vision of delivering good governance and sustainable development in Rivers State.
According to the statement, the deputy governorship nomination is aimed at strengthening the party’s movement for a new political direction in the state.
The ADC expressed confidence that the ticket reflects the aspirations of Rivers people.
It said the candidates possess the leadership, integrity and experience needed to move the state forward.
The party also pledged to promote economic growth, security and equal opportunities for residents.
Dimgba urged Rivers people to support the ticket and join the party’s drive for people-centred governance.
He said the ADC remains committed to uniting the people and restoring public confidence in leadership.
The party highlighted Okumgba’s political experience and grassroots mobilisation record.
Okumgba previously served as South-South Zonal Secretary and South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary of a political party.
He also chaired the Appeal Committee for Senatorial Primaries in Edo State.
The deputy governorship candidate had earlier contested for a seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The ADC said his organisational capacity and understanding of Rivers’ political landscape make him well-suited for the role.
The party called on its members, supporters and the electorate to welcome Okumgba and rally behind the ticket.
With its governorship team now complete, the ADC says it is positioning itself as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections in Rivers State.
