The Kano Free Trade Zone generated more than ₦26 billion in the first six months of 2026, exceeding the total revenue it recorded throughout 2025.
The achievement contributed to the Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generating ₦63.07 billion between January and June 2026.
Acting Area Controller, Usman Umar Adamu, disclosed the figures while briefing journalists at the Customs House in Bompai, Kano, on Wednesday.
He said the command’s revenue rose by 7.4 percent, increasing from ₦58.3 billion in the first half of 2025 to ₦63.07 billion in the same period of 2026, despite a decline in cargo traffic.
Adamu described the Kano Free Trade Zone as the command’s top performer, noting that its six-month earnings surpassed its entire 2025 revenue by about ₦4 billion, reflecting increased business activities.
He also revealed that Customs recovered about ₦3 billion from cases involving the abuse of transit procedures during the review period.
On enforcement, the command intercepted 14 containers linked to diversion and violations of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 through intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other security agencies.
The seizures included smuggled vehicles, truck heads, foreign spaghetti, macaroni, parboiled rice, vegetable oil, and counterfeit agrochemical and insecticide packaging materials.
A total of 22 suspects were arrested. Some have been handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation, while others remain on administrative bail.
The total Duty Paid Value of the seized goods was put at ₦1.7 billion.
Adamu urged importers and traders to comply with government trade regulations, stressing that the command would continue to promote legitimate trade, strengthen enforcement, and boost revenue generation for national development.
