Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have launched a devastating raid on Lassa town in the Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, killing at least one teacher and abducting an unspecified number of students and educators.
The attack occurred on a busy market day, throwing the entire community into complete chaos as heavily armed insurgents, dressed in military camouflage and riding motorcycles, swept through the town unchallenged.
Eyewitnesses reported that the terrorists explicitly targeted the community while students were actively sitting their ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) papers, forcefully whisking away candidates and invigilators to an unknown destination. At least one teacher was shot dead during the initial assault, though the exact casualty and missing person figures remain unclear as traumatized residents continue to search the surrounding areas.
The raid has sparked intense outrage among locals, who alleged that Nigerian military troops stationed in the axis had temporarily left on a patrol to nearby Uba town, roughly 16 kilometers away just before the insurgents struck. When contacted regarding the active security situation, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, stated that the command was currently gathering evidence and would issue a formal update. The daring raid underscores the deeply volatile security situation in southern Borno, where rural communities continue to face sudden insurgent raids despite ongoing military offensives.
