The Kwara State Government has denied claims that it owes workers salaries for May and June 2026.
The government said both months’ salaries were processed and paid in full.
It explained that only a few workers are yet to receive payment due to payroll verification and the ongoing State Staff Identification Number (SSID) registration.
The clarification was made by the Office of the Accountant-General on Wednesday.
Accountant-General Abdulganiyu Sani described reports of two-month salary arrears as false.
He said the affected cases are isolated and not a general salary issue.
According to him, workers awaiting payment need to complete the verification process.
Sani said the SSID exercise is aimed at improving the credibility of the state payroll.
He added that the exercise is designed to eliminate irregularities and protect public funds.
The Accountant-General stressed that the government is not using the exercise to deny genuine workers their salaries.
He also dismissed calls by labour unions to sack the payroll consultant.
Sani explained that the consultant only provides the technology platform for salary processing.
He said the consultant has no authority to approve payments or determine beneficiaries.
According to him, the Office of the Accountant-General remains responsible for preparing, verifying and approving the payroll.
The response followed an ultimatum issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Joint Negotiation Council.
The unions accused the government of failing to pay salaries and statutory deductions for May and June.
They also demanded the removal of the payroll consultant and the Commissioner for Finance.
The unions warned that failure to meet their demands could lead to industrial action.
However, the government insisted the consultant has only been providing technical support for electronic payroll processing.
Sani reaffirmed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to workers’ welfare and the prompt payment of salaries and statutory deductions.
