Governor Fubara Quits Rivers APC Governorship race in a stunning late-night announcement, prioritizing state unity over personal ambition ahead of Thursday’s primaries.
In a personal statement titled “My decision to withdraw from the Rivers State Gubernatorial Primaries,” the governor Fubara confirmed he will not participate in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, vowing to support whichever candidate emerges from the process.
The Governor cited deep reflection and extensive consultations with family, friends, and associates, describing the choice as difficult but necessary.
“Leadership is ultimately about sacrifice, there comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people.” Governor Fubara made it clear that his decision was not born out of weakness, adding, “Let it be clearly understood that I stepped aside… not out of fear, but out of conviction and sacrifice,” he stated.

He acknowledged the disappointment his supporters may feel but urged them to see the bigger picture of peace and stability in Rivers State.
Addressing why he stayed quiet amid mounting pressure, Fubara offered a powerful metaphor: “Not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace; some truths are best borne quietly, not out of fear, but out of wisdom and restraint.”
Governor Fubara also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC for their platform and encouragement.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serving Rivers State until the end of his term, stating, “I stepped aside not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity.”
With Governor Fubara quitting the Rivers APC governorship race, the political landscape shifts dramatically ahead of Thursday’s primaries, his decision reinforces that for Fubara, Rivers State remains bigger than any individual, and sacrifice over ambition now defines his political legacy.
