Jigawa ADC Reps Aspirant, Anas Adamu Laushi, a former Chairman of Guri Local Government Area in Jigawa State and an aspirant for the Birniwa/Guri/Kirikasamma Federal Constituency under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been killed by suspected armed men.
The tragic death of Anas Adamu Laushi occurred after he was abducted alongside Hon. Aliyu Tukur Gantsa while traveling along the Abuja–Kaduna highway. The route has remained a flashpoint for criminal activity, with repeated cases of armed kidnappings targeting commuters.
According to security analyst Bakatsine, the abductors had demanded a significant sum for the release of the politician. It was reported that a ransom of N75 million was paid in an attempt to secure the freedom of Anas Adamu Laushi from captivity.
However, in a heartbreaking turn of events, the kidnappers executed the former chairman after the ransom was delivered, refusing to release him as previously negotiated.
The killing of Anas Adamu Laushi highlights the recurring incidents of banditry and kidnapping affecting Jigawa State, particularly in Guri and Birniwa a Remote local government areas targeted by armed groups.
Kirikasamma Rural communities experiencing increased assaults on villagers.
Forested Corridors areas where perpetrators exploit difficult terrain and limited security presence.
Security reports indicate that these criminal syndicates frequently target high-profile individuals and inter-state travelers for ransom. While security agencies in Jigawa State have recently announced the arrest of several kidnapping and armed robbery suspects following coordinated raids, the Abuja–Kaduna highway remains a high-risk zone.
The death of Anas Adamu Laushi has sparked renewed calls for intensified security patrols and more robust intelligence gathering to protect citizens traveling along Nigeria’s major highway networks.
