Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has ordered immediate repairs on the failed sections of the Calabar-Odukpani Road following an inspection of the badly damaged highway.
The governor toured the road on Monday and assessed areas affected by gully erosion and deep potholes. He said the condition of the road reinforced his administration’s determination to restore safe and smooth movement for residents.
The Calabar-Odukpani Road links Calabar to Odukpani, Akamkpa and several other communities. Its deteriorating condition has caused hardship for motorists, with many sections becoming unsafe and difficult to navigate.
Speaking after the inspection, Otu directed the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure to immediately mobilise contractors to the affected areas.
He said the remedial work would begin without delay to restore the damaged portions of the road and ease the suffering of commuters.
The governor stressed that the emergency repairs were only a short-term measure, adding that the state government was developing a permanent engineering solution to prevent recurring road failures.
According to him, the long-term plan will focus on durable and sustainable infrastructure capable of serving residents for many years.
Otu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the state, saying every road project is aimed at enhancing the quality of life of Cross River residents.
He also appealed to motorists and residents to remain patient and cooperate with the government as work progresses on the road rehabilitation.
