President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has
appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second and final tenure expires on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in a State House press release signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Presidency, Professor Aina is a distinguished academic, systems expert, and one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering. He is expected to bring his vast experience in digital infrastructure, examination systems, and institutional reform to strengthen JAMB’s operations and build on the reforms introduced under Oloyede’s administration.
Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University and is set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The Presidency noted that Aina first gained experience with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps programme, where he developed insight into Nigeria’s admission and examination systems. Over the past 15 years, he has advised federal and state governments on digital transformation, system design, and operational reforms.
He has also worked as a consultant to major examination bodies, including National Examinations Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), focusing on ICT integration, examination integrity, and process optimisation.
Professor Aina is a member of several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the incoming registrar would leverage his expertise and practical knowledge to take JAMB to greater heights, particularly in the area of digital innovation and operational efficiency.
