Dele Momodu, the Publisher of Ovation International and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has stirred political controversy after making statements widely interpreted as a subtle bid to become Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2027 presidential election.
In a post on Monday, June 8, 2026, Momodu predicted a major “battle of the Titans” between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar in 2027. He noted that while a third force may emerge, it might not be strong enough to defeat the two political heavyweights.

He then urged the ADC to position itself as a strong bridge between generations, ideologies, and regions, adding:
“The present combustive tensions and absolute chaos cannot be allowed to continue. It will consume all of us… This is the type of strong bridge we need between the North and the South.”
Many Nigerians immediately interpreted the statement as Dele Momodu indirectly campaigning to be Atiku Abubakar’s vice-presidential candidate in 2027. Social media users quickly coined the phrase “AtiDele 2027”, with several reacting humorously and skeptically to the suggestion.
The post has generated significant buzz online. While a few applauded the call for national reconciliation and issue-based politics, the majority mocked the statement, seeing it as self-promotion. Comments such as “Dele don dey campaign,” “Atiku don get VP,” and “Ovation don turn to campaign poster” flooded social media platforms.

Dele Momodu, a well-known journalist, businessman, and politician, has been active in opposition politics for years. He contested for the presidency in the past and has maintained strong relationships across different political blocs.
His latest intervention comes as political parties and major players begin early manoeuvring and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dele Momodu’s interest in the vice-presidential slot through his carefully worded statement has left little doubt in the minds of many political observers about his ambitions.
As the countdown to 2027 continues, all eyes remain on how key opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar and possible running mates will align.
