Delta State Police Command has arrested a content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, aged 40, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba”, in connection with the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman who later took her own life.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Edafe Bright, confirmed the arrest in a statement, revealing that the suspect was detained following a formal petition from the victim’s family.
According to the police, the deceased travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, at the invitation of Ogbonna, who had offered to train her in content creation through his social media platform. Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly took her to a hotel where he allegedly raped her and subjected her to physical violence.
The young woman reportedly returned home visibly traumatised and narrated her ordeal to her parents. In a video recording made before her death, she detailed the alleged assault and the emotional distress she suffered. She later ingested a toxic substance and died despite efforts to save her life.

The police said the suspect is currently in custody and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
This tragic incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for justice for the deceased and stricter measures against sexual violence. The case has also renewed conversations about the safety of young women, especially those engaging with online influencers and content creators.
