President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Hausa communities in Nigeria and across the world as they mark World Hausa Day.
Tinubu described the Hausa people as “great pillars” whose contributions remain vital to Nigeria’s unity, peace and development.
The President stated this in a message shared on his official X handle on Wednesday.
He said the Hausa community has played an important role in strengthening Nigeria’s social and cultural fabric.
“The Hausa people are great pillars that play a vital role in the unity and progress of Nigeria,” Tinubu said.
The President also highlighted the growing global influence of the Hausa language.
He described Hausa as a major language of unity and commerce, noting its importance beyond Nigeria.
Tinubu congratulated the Hausa community on the celebration taking place at the historic Daura Palace.
“I congratulate the vast Hausa community on the occasion of Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace today,” he said.
World Hausa Day, also known as Ranar Hausa, is celebrated annually on August 26.
The initiative began as a social media campaign led by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari to promote Hausa online and celebrate its cultural heritage.
The observance has since grown into an international event, with Hausa communities marking it across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.
However, World Hausa Day has not yet received official recognition from the United Nations.
Hausa remains one of Nigeria’s most widely spoken languages and is also prominent across Africa.
The language plays a major role in trade, culture and communication across borders.
Tinubu’s message further underscored the importance of indigenous languages in promoting unity and preserving cultural identity in Nigeria and beyond.
