The Chairman of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Dr Salisu Isah, has called for urgent action to restore electricity to nine wards and revive abandoned road projects across the area.
Isah made the appeal while welcoming the commencement of the ₦177 billion reconstruction of the 122-kilometre Mando-Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road.
He described the project as a major turning point for Birnin Gwari, saying the road would improve security, boost farming and trade, create jobs and ease the movement of people and goods.
According to him, the highway is vital to farmers, traders, students, transporters and other residents whose livelihoods depend on the route.

Isah commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for their interventions in the local government.
He also praised the ongoing reconstruction of the 36-kilometre Bagoma-Gagumi Road, as well as the renovation of Jibril Mai Gwari Memorial Hospital I and the construction of a modern abattoir and veterinary clinic.
However, the chairman said more work was needed to address Birnin Gwari’s infrastructure deficit.
He appealed to the Federal and Kaduna State governments to revive the abandoned Gwargwaje-Zaria Road–Farin Ruwa–Saulawa project, which began in 2011 before being stalled.
Isah said completing the road would reconnect communities, expand trade and unlock the economic potential of the area.
On electricity, he disclosed that nine of Birnin Gwari’s 11 wards remain disconnected from the national grid.
He said years of insecurity and damage to power infrastructure had worsened the situation, stressing that restoring electricity would transform education, healthcare, agriculture, businesses and communication.
The chairman also called for the rehabilitation of schools and healthcare facilities, as well as the establishment of tertiary institutions, a JAMB examination centre and functional skills acquisition centres.
He said such investments were crucial to giving young people better opportunities and reducing the effects of years of insecurity and underdevelopment.
Isah urged residents to support contractors and protect ongoing projects, describing the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road as a strategic national asset.
He also acknowledged the role of the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Malam Zubair Jibril, in promoting peace and strengthening cooperation between the people and government.
The chairman expressed optimism that sustained investment in roads, electricity, security, education and healthcare would reposition Birnin Gwari as a more connected and prosperous community.
