Comrade Etimbuk Daniel, the immediate past Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), has died at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Enugu State.
Daniel reportedly died after complaining of a severe headache, sparking concerns among Nigerian students over the medical care provided at the camp.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) alleged that his condition deteriorated after he was given medication at the camp clinic.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, said Daniel requested to be taken to a hospital but allegedly died before the necessary approval was granted.
The student body further claimed it was informed that a doctor later identified the drugs administered to Daniel as fake.
The circumstances surrounding his death have raised concerns about the quality of medical services, drug safety and emergency response procedures at NYSC orientation camps.
