FIFA has announced that the winners of the 2026 World Cup will receive bespoke championship rings in addition to the trophy and medals — a first in the history of the tournament.
The innovation, inspired by traditions in American sports like the NBA and NFL, will see the winning squad receive 30 custom-made rings, while 1,996 additional rings will be made available for fans to purchase.
Each ring features the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy on one side and the national colours of the winning team on the other. The rings are individually numbered and come with a certificate of authenticity, making them premium collector’s items.
The captain and coach will receive temporary versions for the trophy presentation ceremony on the pitch, with their full custom rings delivered later.
Mixed Reactions from Fans
The introduction of championship rings has elicited mixed feelings among football fans. While some have embraced the luxury and commemorative aspect of the rings, others have criticised it as an “unnecessary Americanization” of the sport.
This is the first time such rings will be awarded in World Cup history, reflecting FIFA’s attempt to enhance the prestige and memorabilia value of winning the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup, which will feature 48 teams and be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, is already shaping up to be one of the most commercially ambitious editions of the competition.
