Former Katsina South Senator, Bello Mandiya, has died in Abuja at the age of 62.
Mandiya reportedly died on Monday, September 7. His death was confirmed by the Katsina State Government.
The cause of death had not been officially disclosed as of the time of the reports.
Mandiya represented Katsina South Senatorial District in the Ninth National Assembly from 2019 to 2023.
Before becoming a senator, he was a prominent figure in Katsina State politics.
He served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, where he played a key role in the state administration.
In 2019, Mandiya contested the Katsina South senatorial election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He won the election and served as a member of the Ninth National Assembly until 2023.
His political career therefore covered both state and federal government responsibilities.
The Katsina State Government confirmed his death through Ibrahim Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dikko Radda.
Governor Radda described Mandiya’s death as a significant loss to Katsina State and Nigeria.
He commended the former senator’s contributions to public service and the development of the state.
Radda expressed condolences to Mandiya’s family, former Governor Masari, political associates, constituents and his former National Assembly colleagues.
The governor said Mandiya dedicated a significant part of his life to serving the people at both state and federal levels.
Reports citing the Katsina State Government said Mandiya would be buried in Abuja on Tuesday, September 8, at 11 a.m.
His death has triggered mourning among political leaders, associates and stakeholders across Katsina State.
Mandiya’s passing also comes as political activities intensify across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As a former senator and senior political figure, his death represents a significant loss to Katsina’s political community.
His previous roles as a senior government aide and federal lawmaker had established him as an influential figure in the state’s political landscape.
Family members, political associates, constituents and former colleagues are expected to attend his burial and pay their final respects.
