Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has described the growing activities of car spotters as criminal and vowed that the state government will remove them from the streets.
Speaking during an interview on Nigeria Info FM, Hamzat said the government would take decisive action against the trend, particularly along major corridors such as the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
“That is criminal. We will take them off the streets,” the Deputy Governor stated.
Car spotters are mostly young people who chase and film luxury cars for social media content. The practice, popularised by figures such as Ola of Lagos, has grown into a hustle but has drawn strong criticism from motorists who describe it as intrusive and harassing.
The Deputy Governor’s comments follow increasing complaints about spotters stopping vehicles and creating safety concerns. Authorities have also cited the use of road cameras to make arrests and address related issues of insecurity and public nuisance.
The Lagos State Government is expected to intensify enforcement measures to curb the activities of car spotters across the state.
