The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unveiled a youth empowerment programme aimed at equipping 100 young Nigerians with vocational and entrepreneurial skills.
The party said the beneficiaries would later train 38,000 other youths across the country under a “train-the-trainers” scheme.
PDP National Youth Leader, Ibrahim Bala-Aboki, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during an event marking the 2026 International Youth Day.
He said the initiative, being implemented with Destiny Hotshot Synergy International, would promote self-reliance, job creation and sustainable livelihoods.
“Young people are not leaders of tomorrow alone; we are leaders, partners and stakeholders as well,” Bala-Aboki said.
He added that his office had prioritised youth mobilisation, inclusion, empowerment and grassroots participation within its first 100 days.
Bala-Aboki also promised to build a youth structure that would be inclusive, vibrant, disciplined, innovative and grassroots-driven.
Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who chaired the event, called for greater investment in young Nigerians.
Lamido said youths were key drivers of positive change and national stability but continued to face unemployment, rising living costs, poor education and limited mentorship.
He pledged that the PDP and its candidates would make youth development and inclusion a priority ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP National Director of Administration, Arthur Ekwelem, urged young Nigerians to use their numbers and creativity to shape electoral outcomes.
He cited voter apathy, distrust in political institutions, electoral violence, economic hardship, misinformation and poor civic education as barriers to youth participation.
Meanwhile, Director-General of the PDP Female Youth Wing, Loveth Izekor, demanded greater political opportunities and funding for young women.
She urged political leaders to stop limiting young women to campaign mobilisation and give them opportunities to become decision-makers and agenda-setters.
