The Federal Ministry of Education has lifted its earlier embargo on employment as it has authorized federal government tertiary institutions to recruit new staff if they have been granted waiver.
The minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa gave the directive in a Press Statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, the ministry public relations director.
Almost all federal universities in Nigeria has been understaffed as cases where one lecturer handles two to three courses at all levels in a department of over two thousand students almost became a culture in Nigeria tertiary institutions.
Findings from The Times of Nigeria reveals that the FG maintained this deficient policy of overloading respective lecturers with too much work loads for too long as no federal tertiary institution could employ new staff due to Government salary payment system known as Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) which only acknowledges and pays staff captured in its biometric payroll system.
