Amnesty International Nigeria has declared that it will name and shame Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East, across the 150 countries where the organisation operates.
Isa Sanusi, Country Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, made the statement while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. He said the senator would be used as an example for allegedly inciting electoral violence ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.
The controversy stems from a viral campaign video recorded in Ilesa in which Fadahunsi was heard telling supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party if seen. The senator has denied the literal interpretation of the remarks, claiming the video was edited and that he only meant defeating opponents at the ballot. He also referenced alleged attacks on APC members.
Police have questioned the senator over the video, while civil society organisations and Amnesty International have called for accountability to reduce rising electoral tensions in the state. The election pits the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party against rivals from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amnesty’s decision to publicly name and shame the lawmaker is aimed at sending a strong message against hate speech and incitement during the election period.
