The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the appointment of Brandon Hudspeth as the new Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos.
The announcement was made via the official U.S. in Nigeria X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, 14th August 2026. Hudspeth is returning to Nigeria after previously serving as the Consulate’s Political-Economic Section Chief between 2020 and 2022.

A career Senior Foreign Service officer from Texas with about two decades of experience, Hudspeth most recently served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Namibia. He has also held postings in the Philippines, Mali, Cuba, and Afghanistan, as well as positions in Washington at the Operations Centre and the Bureau of African Affairs.
The appointment comes as he succeeds the retiring Consul General Rick Swart. Hudspeth’s return is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the United States and Nigeria, particularly across the 17 states under the Lagos Consulate’s coverage.
The U.S. Mission expressed excitement about his leadership and looked forward to continued collaboration under his tenure.
