President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the forthcoming Osun State governorship election to demonstrate its readiness for the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu urged the electoral body to seize the opportunity to prove its capacity to deliver a transparent, credible and well-organised election.
The President’s call comes as political attention gradually shifts towards the 2027 general elections.
Credibility, transparency and efficiency are expected to remain major issues in the electoral process.
Tinubu said the conduct of the Osun election should help strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.
The outcome of the poll could also provide a crucial indication of INEC’s level of preparedness for the much larger electoral exercise in 2027.
