Kelvin Power Mike Adenuga bodyguard quits
He is known today as the muscle-bound, fiercely loyal bodyguard of Afrobeats sensation Kizz Daniel
a man whose physical presence and viral moments have made him an internet favourite across Nigeria.
But before the fame, the TikTok clips, and the flashing cameras at sold-out concerts,
Kelvin Atobiloye better known as Kelvin Power endured a chapter of his life
defined by professional tension, personal heartbreak, and rock-bottom financial hardship.
In a candid sit-down interview with PUNCH Newspapers, the Ondo born fitness expert and
professional bodybuilder peeled back the curtain on a painful period roughly a decade ago,
when his career in the inner circle of one of Nigeria’s most powerful households came to an abrupt end.
Working for the “Bull” and His Daughter
It was a posting any security professional would envy: working within the personal entourage of
Mike Adenuga, the telecom and oil billionaire widely nicknamed “the Bull” a man
whose empire spans Globacom, Conoil, and a sprawling portfolio of assets that have made him one of
Africa’s wealthiest individuals.
Kelvin Power had earned the assignment through a combination of
physical discipline, professional reputation, and sheer determination.
However, the role did not begin with Mike Adenuga himself.
Kelvin was first deployed under
Bella Disu (née Adenuga), the billionaire’s daughter and executive vice chairman of Globacom.
A high-powered businesswoman in her own right holding degrees from the University of Massachusetts
and Northeastern University Bella is no ordinary boss. And for Kelvin Power, working under her
proved to be anything but ordinary.
“I was working with Adenuga’s daughter, Bella, but it seemed nothing I did pleased her.
One day, she sent me back to her father’s compound.”
Despite his best efforts to meet expectations, the atmosphere between Kelvin and Bella remained
strained. When the tension became unmanageable, she reassigned him to the main Adenuga residence,
where he joined the personal security detail of Mike Adenuga himself.
For a brief period,
things seemed to be heading in a better direction working directly under “the Bull” was a significant
step up. But the friction did not disappear.
According to Kelvin, Bella’s dissatisfaction with him
continued even from a distance, and the sustained pressure eventually made his position untenable.
With no resolution in sight, Kelvin made the decision to walk away from the entire Adenuga household altogether.
A Dark Season: Grief, Emptiness, and a Journey to the Mountain
Leaving the Adenuga compound was not just a career setback for Kelvin Power it coincided with
what he describes as the most painful stretch of his life.
Shortly after his departure,
he faced the devastating loss of his mother, a woman whose wellbeing had been one of his
primary motivations for pursuing wealth and success in the first place.
In earlier interviews, Kelvin had spoken openly about the deep love he had for his mother and
the urgency he felt to provide for her.
He had famously abandoned a promising law degree from
the University of Ado Ekiti now Ekiti State University precisely because he wanted to
generate income fast enough for her to enjoy it while she was still alive.
The cruel irony
was not lost on him. He had hustled tirelessly, reached the heights of one of Nigeria’s
most elite households, and still, he could not hold on.
By the time he left the Adenuga compound, his finances were in ruins.
He had nothing left.
Rather than spiral further, he made a spiritual retreat to a prayer mountain a decision
he now credits as the turning point that salvaged everything.
“After leaving Adenuga’s compound, I was going to bury my mum. I had spent all my money
and felt empty. I went to a mountain to clear my head. That was the best decision I ever made.”
Rising Again: From Rock Bottom to Kizz Daniel
The path back was not immediate, but it was steady.
Kelvin returned to private security work
and continued to build his reputation as a dependable and highly capable close protection officer.
When a professional security firm was engaged to provide a bodyguard for Afrobeats star Kizz Daniel,
every candidate they initially put forward was rejected.
A word-of-mouth recommendation eventually
led the firm to Kelvin Power and the rest, as they say, became viral history.
Today, Kelvin Power is not just a bodyguard.
He is an IFBB professional bodybuilder,
an actor with roles to his credit, and a social media personality whose bold loyalty to Kizz Daniel
has made him a beloved figure in Nigerian entertainment circles. His journey from a prayer mountain
to the spotlight is a testament to resilience, faith, and the quiet dignity that comes from
refusing to stay down no matter what life throws your way.
As for the complicated chapter with the Adenuga family? He has spoken his truth and moved on.
