Justice Faruku Bunza has regained his freedom after spending one week in captivity following his abduction from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed on Monday that the High Court judge was released earlier in the day. His release was verified by his family and the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice.
Police spokesperson SP Bashir Usman said the kidnappers had demanded a ransom. However, he stressed that security agencies maintained their policy against paying ransom.
He added that security operatives have intensified efforts to track down those responsible for the abduction. The police also appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
The judge’s family expressed gratitude to God, security agencies, the Kebbi State Judiciary, and the public for their prayers and support during the ordeal.
While celebrating his safe return, the family declined to disclose the circumstances surrounding his release, saying further details would be made available later.
