Manchester City’s ongoing financial case is expected to dominate attention ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Liverpool, with rival managers remaining cautious about the issue.
City were found guilty of breaching the majority of the 115 financial-rule charges brought against them. The club has appealed the verdict, meaning the case is not yet concluded.
Coventry City manager Frank Lampard, who previously played for Manchester City, declined to make a firm judgment while the appeal is ongoing.
“What can you say when an appeal is going on? I’m not inside the story, I’m outside it completely,” Lampard said.
He added that he would wait for the appeal outcome before assessing the potential consequences for the club.
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke also avoided detailed comment, saying the matter was better addressed by people more directly involved.
“Not my topic. My topic is football. There are more qualified people to speak on this,” Farke said.
Attention is now expected to turn to Manchester City’s manager, Enzo Maresca, who is due to face the media before Sunday’s fixture.
Questions about the financial case are likely to feature prominently, alongside preparations for the highly anticipated clash with Liverpool.
With City’s appeal still pending, Premier League managers have largely avoided making definitive judgments on the case.
The outcome of the appeal could determine the club’s longer-term consequences, while Sunday’s Liverpool clash provides the immediate focus on the pitch.
