A recently retired Ogun State traffic officer, Deputy Superintendent of Traffic (DST) Anifat Bello, popularly known as Aunty Anifat, has received a N1 million cash reward for her years of dedicated and professional service.
Bello was honoured at a reception and dinner organised by the Ogun State PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate for the 2027 election, Hajia ’Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, in Obantoko, Abeokuta.
Sowunmi-Kolapo presented N500,000 to the retired officer, while Yeye Adenike Adebutu, wife of the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Oladipupo Adebutu, donated another N500,000.
Sowunmi-Kolapo praised Bello for her discipline, professionalism and commitment to traffic management, describing her as a role model for younger Nigerians.
She said the cash gift was a token of appreciation for Bello’s dedication and expressed hope that it would mark the beginning of greater things for her.
Adebutu also commended Bello for her cheerful attitude and commitment to duty, recalling how she regularly saw her controlling traffic while maintaining a smile.
She promised that Bello would be considered for a role in the Adebutu administration if the PDP wins the 2027 governorship election.
Sowunmi-Kolapo also promised improved welfare for workers in Ogun State, saying the PDP would ensure that civil servants’ contributions were properly recognised.
Ogun PDP Chairman, Dr Abayomi Tella, described Bello’s selflessness as worthy of emulation, while the party’s secretary, Alhaji Semiu Sodipo, praised her integrity and cheerful relationship with road users.
Sodipo said Bello was known for carrying out her duties professionally and avoiding bribery while controlling traffic across the state.
Members of Bello’s family thanked the PDP leaders for the recognition. Her brother, Nunasu Jacob, described her as caring, generous and jovial.
Bello’s daughter, Dorcas Olusegun, said the gesture would remain memorable to the family.
The retired officer expressed appreciation to the organisers and urged workers, particularly young Nigerians, to take their responsibilities seriously.
Bello’s recognition followed a widely circulated video showing residents celebrating her on her final day in uniform.
She has also reportedly received commendations from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, and the Accord Party for her dedication to duty.
