The political leader of Uyo Senatorial District, Effiong Bob, has cautioned politicians and critics against what he described as persistent and unwarranted attacks on Umo Eno, warning that the people of Uyo Senatorial District would resist any effort to undermine the governor’s administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking with journalists amid increasing political activities in the state, Bob urged political actors to focus on issue-based campaigns and constructive criticism rather than personal attacks. He stressed that democracy thrives on healthy debate and objective evaluation of government performance, not attempts to tarnish the reputation of public office holders.
“If you want to play politics, play politics without bitterness. Play politics without attacking persons or delving into personal issues,” he said.
Bob argued that Governor Eno, who hails from Uyo Senatorial District, deserves the same level of support and political goodwill previously extended to governors from other senatorial districts. He noted that while the governor serves the entire state, continued attacks on his administration could be perceived as an attack on the district itself.
The former senator warned that the people of Uyo Senatorial District would not remain passive while their son was subjected to what he termed unnecessary criticism. He advised aspiring political office holders to present their own policies and programmes to voters instead of targeting the governor personally.
“Uyo Senatorial District people will resist every attempt to bring down the governance structure of Umo Eno at this time,” he declared.
Defending the governor’s record, Bob said Eno has remained committed to implementing his ARISE Agenda and fulfilling the promises contained in his election manifesto. Although acknowledging that some citizens may hold differing views on the administration’s approach, he maintained that the governor was working diligently to deliver on his mandate.
He further argued that Eno should be allowed to complete what he described as the conventional eight-year tenure often enjoyed by previous governors in the state, insisting it would be unfair to disrupt his political trajectory after only three years in office.
Looking ahead to the 2027 governorship election, Bob reaffirmed the support of Uyo Senatorial District for Governor Eno, citing ongoing projects such as the International Conference Centre and Hilton Hotel development as evidence of progress under the administration.
He also highlighted the payment of pensions and gratuities as one of the governor’s key achievements, noting that while such interventions may not be as visible as infrastructure projects, they have significantly improved the welfare of retirees.
Bob concluded by urging political stakeholders to allow the electorate to assess leaders based on their performance and vision, rather than engaging in personal attacks and campaigns of discredit.
