A massive fire has broken out at the Bono Energy Terminal in Lagos, prompting a swift emergency response along the busy Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway.
The incident occurred on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the fuel storage facility located in the Coconut area of Olodi Apapa.
The explosion triggered panic among residents, motorists, and workers as thick black smoke and towering flames engulfed parts of the terminal.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) were immediately deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.
Emergency responders are working to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby oil tank farms, gas facilities, and other critical installations in the area.
LSFRS spokesperson, Shakiru Amodu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday.
He said the agency was actively battling the fire at Bono Energy Terminal and promised that further updates would be provided.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been established by investigators.
Authorities have also not confirmed whether there were casualties or the extent of damage caused by the inferno.
Videos circulating on social media show firefighters spraying foam and water while people hurriedly fled the area.
Motorists and commuters have been advised to avoid the Coconut axis and use alternative routes until the fire is fully extinguished and the area is declared safe.
