The Cross River State House of Assembly has mourned the death of the state Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams, who died at the age of 54.
Williams reportedly died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja.
Speaker of the Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, described his death as a painful loss to Cross River State.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Matthew Okache, Ayambem said Williams was a committed politician and dedicated public servant.
He said the late commissioner made significant contributions to the administration and political development of the state.
Ayambem also commended Williams for his service as a member of the State Executive Council and his contributions to Nigeria’s power sector.
The Speaker noted that Williams’ influence extended beyond Cross River through his leadership of the Forum of Commissioners for Power and Energy in Nigeria.
According to him, the position enabled Williams to contribute to national discussions on electricity and energy development.
“Prince Eka Williams believed in service and gave himself to the advancement of Cross River. His death is a painful loss to the state, and his contributions to public service will not be forgotten,” Ayambem said.
The Speaker extended condolences to Governor Bassey Otu, members of the State Executive Council and the All Progressives Congress family.
He also commiserated with the people of Ikom and Akparabong communities, as well as Williams’ family, friends and associates.
Ayambem prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and eternal rest for the deceased.
Tributes have continued to pour in across Cross River, with political and public figures remembering Williams for his dedication to public service and his contributions to the power and energy sector.
