The Lagos State Government has launched the Lagos Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF), providing young innovators with grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to support climate-focused projects.
The initiative, developed in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, is aimed at supporting youth-led solutions that will make Lagos cleaner, greener, and more resilient to climate change.
The fund will support practical projects addressing environmental challenges across communities, with a focus on sustainability, green innovation, and climate resilience.
Eligible applicants must be youth groups made up of individuals between the ages of 15 and 24.
Announcing the programme, Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, encouraged young people with climate ideas to take advantage of the opportunity.
He said the fund provides a platform for youths to develop solutions that can contribute to building a sustainable Lagos.
“Got an innovative idea to make Lagos greener, cleaner, and more resilient? This is your opportunity to rise, lead, and demonstrate that meaningful climate action starts here,” Wahab stated.
The commissioner described the initiative as more than a grant programme, saying it represents a movement to empower young people to drive environmental change.
Applicants are expected to attend a pre-launch webinar where organisers will explain eligibility requirements, project guidelines, and the application process.
The webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
The programme comes as Lagos continues to face climate-related challenges, including flooding and rising temperatures.
Through the fund, the state government and Bloomberg Philanthropies hope to encourage grassroots innovations and equip young people to lead climate action efforts.
Successful applicants will receive financial support to transform their ideas into projects with measurable environmental impact across Lagos State.
