A fimg 1779972824320resh political tension is brewing within the Kano chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following reports that the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has settled for former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Sources close to the development revealed that the decision came after a series of consultations involving key stakeholders within the Kwankwasiyya Movement and allied political figures.

Gwarzo, who resigned as deputy governor in March amid impeachment threats from the Kano State House of Assembly, is said to have emerged ahead of other contenders after strategic internal deliberations.

Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasiru Gawuna, had reportedly been considered a strong aspirant for the ticket before the movement shifted support to Gwarzo during meetings held on Wednesday.

Insiders disclosed that Kwankwaso later offered Gawuna either the deputy governorship position or the Kano Central Senatorial ticket, but the former APC candidate allegedly rejected both options while reaffirming his commitment to the movement and the party.

According to sources, Gawuna maintained that his decision to join the Kwankwasiyya Movement was not based on political appointments and insisted he would remain loyal despite missing out on the governorship slot.

The official announcement of Gwarzo’s emergence was reportedly delayed due to mounting pressure from influential party figures urging Kwankwaso to reconsider Gawuna because of his popularity and perceived electoral strength in Kano Central.

Supporters backing Gawuna argued that the party’s strongest challenger to incumbent Governor Abba Yusuf should come from Kano Central, citing the area’s large voting population and political influence.

However, loyalists of Gwarzo insisted that the former deputy governor earned the ticket through years of loyalty, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the Kwankwasiyya Movement.ofger Alternative Positions
