The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has firmly dismissed circulating reports suggesting a rift between the legislature and the executive arm of government.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the Assembly described the reports as misleading and inaccurate, particularly those connected to the temporary restriction of access to the venue currently being used for legislative sittings.
The lawmakers have been holding plenary sessions at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs complex while the main Assembly Complex undergoes renovation funded by the state government.
“The Assembly wishes to clarify that there has been no rift in relations between the Legislature and the Executive. Both arms of government continue to work collaboratively and remain united in their commitment to serving the people of Akwa Ibom State.”
The statement explained that the incident which generated public attention was simply a result of the implementation of standard security procedures governing access to the Government House precincts. It noted that any temporary inconvenience caused was not an attempt to obstruct legislative functions or undermine the independence of the House.
The Assembly emphasized that any administrative or security issues arising from the temporary arrangement have been resolved through proper channels of communication. It stressed that the situation should not be misinterpreted as institutional discord or hostility between the two arms of government.
Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob, Leader of the House, signed the statement, which reaffirmed the Assembly’s full commitment to maintaining a cordial and productive relationship with the Executive under Governor Umo Eno.
The release urged members of the public to disregard speculative reports and continue supporting the efforts of both arms of government toward the development of the state.
The House is currently conducting its legislative business smoothly at the temporary chambers located at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. This arrangement, according to the Assembly, ensures the uninterrupted discharge of its constitutional responsibilities while renovation works continue at the main complex.
This clarification comes after Tuesday’s incident sparked intense speculation and questions about possible political tensions in the state.
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly remains one of the most stable legislatures in the country, and both the Executive and Legislature have generally maintained harmonious working relationships since the inception of the current administration.
