Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to court over alleged breach of his personal data.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1272/2026, was filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, June 15, 2026. Emeka Ike is demanding N10 billion in damages for what he describes as the unlawful exposure and misuse of his sensitive voter and personal information.
The development has generated significant reactions online, with many commending the actor for taking a bold step to protect his data privacy, while others see it as another chapter in the ongoing political tensions involving Wike’s camp.
According to reports, the actor accuses Lere Olayinka of accessing and publicly mishandling his personal data from INEC’s database. He is also holding INEC accountable for allegedly failing to safeguard his information as required by law.
This case raises critical questions about data protection, the responsibilities of public institutions like INEC, and the conduct of political aides in handling citizens’ sensitive information.
The lawsuit has sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some users praised Emeka Ike for standing up for his rights, others questioned his motives and the likelihood of success in the Nigerian judicial system.
The matter is still at its early stage, and both INEC and Lere Olayinka are yet to issue official responses to the claims.
Emeka Ike is a veteran Nollywood actor known for his roles in many popular movies. He has been politically active in recent years and has not shied away from public controversies.
This latest legal action highlights the growing concern among Nigerians about data privacy and the potential weaponisation of personal information in political battles.
