South-East ADC Rejects Tinubu’s 2027 Endorsement By Governors

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) South East chapter has rejected the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term by some South East governors, saying the decision does not represent the position of the Igbo people.

The endorsement was made during an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, where three South East governors declared support for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ambition.

In a statement, ADC National Vice Chairman (South East), Sir Bon Unachukwu, described the governors’ action as a personal political decision that does not reflect the feelings and concerns of the people.

He accused the governors of speaking for themselves rather than representing the interests of Ndi Igbo, who he said are facing serious economic and social challenges.

Unachukwu argued that Nigerians have endured rising costs of living, insecurity, unemployment, inflation and other difficulties under the current administration.

He said there was no justification for endorsing the continuation of a government that, according to him, has failed to adequately address the challenges facing citizens.

“The endorsement of President Tinubu by these governors is an endorsement of failure. Ndi Igbo cannot endorse failure, and Nigerians cannot reward suffering with another term in office,” he stated.

The ADC leader maintained that many people in the South East have little reason to celebrate the present administration due to what he described as neglect of the region.

He highlighted concerns over infrastructure development, federal appointments and economic investments, claiming that the South East has not received fair treatment.

Unachukwu also criticised the state of major federal road projects in the region, saying several important projects remain unfinished despite promises of development.

He expressed worry over the increasing frustration among young people in the South East, particularly graduates struggling to find employment opportunities.

According to him, political leaders should focus on solving citizens’ problems rather than engaging in activities aimed at advancing personal political interests.

The ADC said the governors’ endorsement does not represent the mood of Nigerians who are demanding improved security, economic recovery, good governance and accountable leadership.

The party said the 2027 election would provide an opportunity for citizens to make decisions based on performance and results rather than political endorsements.

Unachukwu assured Nigerians that the ADC is prepared to offer an alternative direction based on competence, accountability, inclusion and national development.

He called on Nigerians across ethnic and religious lines to support efforts aimed at building a better future for the country.

The ADC leader insisted that political endorsements cannot override the decision of voters, saying the people will ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 election.

He said Nigerians would judge leaders based on achievements, policies and impact on citizens’ lives.

Unachukwu added that the future of the country would depend on leadership that prioritises the welfare of the people above political interests.
