Chelsea Football Club has announced that affiliates of Clearlake Capital Group, L.P. will acquire the ownership interests of Todd Boehly and Mark Walter, thereby taking full control of the club.
Hansjörg Wyss will remain an important partner and stakeholder in the club.
The deal ends the multi-year co-ownership structure that was established following the 2022 purchase of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich for more than £2.3 billion. Clearlake, which has been the majority shareholder since that transaction, now consolidates its position with approximately 87% ownership. The deal values the club at around £5 billion.
The move comes amid reports of differences among the co-owners that began surfacing in 2024, during which Boehly stepped down as chairman.
Chelsea confirmed that the change in ownership structure will not affect the club’s day-to-day operations, leadership or long-term strategy.
The acquisition strengthens Clearlake’s control over one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs as it continues its project at Stamford Bridge.
