The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate removal of Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations of a N600 million appointment scam and an alleged “ghost agency” fraud.
The opposition party urged President Bola Tinubu to suspend his aide to allow for an independent investigation.
According to the NDC, the controversy centres on the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an agency the Presidency reportedly says does not exist.
Despite this claim, the party alleges that the PFIPC operated like a government institution.
The NDC claimed the agency received allocations in the 2026 budget and maintained several accounts, including Treasury Single Accounts.
It also alleged that the agency secured approval for 314 staff positions from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
The party questioned how a supposedly non-existent agency could obtain such approvals and operate official accounts.
It further asked whether government agencies processed documents linked to the organisation without proper verification.
The controversy intensified after Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the agency’s Director-General, alleged that he paid N600 million to secure the position.
According to the NDC, N400 million of the amount was allegedly paid through intermediaries linked to the Chief of Staff.
The party claimed that a disagreement over an outstanding N200 million payment may have triggered the public dispute surrounding the agency.
It also alleged that Gbajabiamila demanded 48 per cent of the agency’s take-off grant, a claim that has not been proven in court.
The NDC further linked the matter to the death of Babatunde Tanimola, described as an intermediary in the dealings.
Tanimola reportedly died in a hotel fire in Abuja’s Utako area in October 2025, shortly after a police petition related to the matter was filed.
Meanwhile, Adeyemi has alleged that he survived multiple assassination attempts, including an attack on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC demanded a broad investigation into the allegations.
The party called for an independent panel to examine the PFIPC’s operations, finances, staffing approvals and related transactions.
It also requested a forensic review of official documents allegedly connected to the matter.
The NDC urged anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, to investigate the claims.
The party insisted that Nigerians deserve a transparent inquiry and accountability from all individuals found culpable.
As public attention grows, many observers are awaiting the Presidency’s response to the allegations and the questions raised by the opposition party.
