The Nigeria Police Force has invited social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), to appear before the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja.

According to the police, VDM is expected to provide evidence to support allegations he made publicly against Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Moshood Jimoh, who heads Zone 2 Command in Lagos.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu, the police said the invitation letter was sent to VDM on July 30, 2026.

The Force also disclosed that AIG Moshood Jimoh has been invited for questioning as part of its internal investigation into the same allegations. It said both actions demonstrate its commitment to accountability, regardless of an officer’s rank or a complainant’s public profile.

Police noted that one of the criminal cases linked to the allegations has already been investigated and is currently before a competent court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). It stressed that the matter is now sub judice and should not be tried in the media.

VeryDarkMan had alleged in several videos that Jimoh, while serving as Lagos Commissioner of Police, mishandled investigations into the killings of youth leader Sheriff Salami in 2023 and Prince Ademola Akinloye in 2024 in the Ajiran area of Eti-Osa, Lagos.

He also claimed businessman Ahmed Akanbi was wrongly implicated in the cases. Akanbi was later arrested by INTERPOL in the Benin Republic and returned to Nigeria for prosecution.

The Police urged VDM to honour the invitation and cooperate with investigators. It added that any officer found guilty after investigation would face appropriate sanctions.

The Force also warned that anyone found to have made false allegations aimed at damaging the reputation of police officers or the institution could face legal consequences.

It further advised members of the public to report complaints against police officers through official channels such as the Force CID, the Complaint Response Unit, or the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, instead of relying on social media campaigns.
