Nigeria’s star hurdler Tobi Amusan clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, finishing third with a time of 12.60 seconds.
Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton took gold in 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds claimed silver with 12.41 seconds.
Despite dominating her heat with a Games-record 12.19 seconds, Amusan was visibly hampered by a knee injury sustained during a bad fall in training camp. She revealed after the race that she had been managing the pain coming into the competition.
In a post-race interview with the Nigerian press in the mixed zone, Amusan remained positive, refusing to make excuses for her performance.
She expressed her goal of winning gold but acknowledged the challenges posed by the injury and a slight hurdle clip during the final.
This bronze medal adds to Amusan’s impressive Commonwealth Games record. The world record holder (12.12 seconds) had won gold in both the 2018 and 2022 editions and was aiming for a historic third consecutive title.
