Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has extended the deadline for the digital registration of tricycles (Keke) and mini buses operating in the state.
Addressing newsmen during an unscheduled inspection of the CNG Bus Terminal at Ikot Akpe, Uyo, on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, the Governor announced that the new deadline is 30 September 2026.
“Let me please request all our Tricycle (Keke) and Mini Bus operators to get registered. They requested for extension of time and I have extended the time to 30th September 2026,” he said.
Governor Eno warned that from 1 October 2026, any Keke or mini bus that has not completed the digital registration will be barred from plying the roads in the state.
He explained that the registration exercise is particularly important as the state approaches the yuletide season, a period when crime rates often increase.
“We want to know who are the people carrying passengers, have them in our Data Base to enable us track them in the event of any criminality,” the Governor stated.
The digital registration is aimed at improving security, enhancing accountability among commercial transport operators, and enabling authorities to maintain an accurate database of those providing passenger services across Akwa Ibom State.
