Enzo Fernandez has joined Manchester City from Chelsea in a British-record £125 million transfer completed on Deadline Day.
The deal matches the record fee paid by Liverpool for former Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
Chelsea will make an £18 million profit on Fernandez, having signed the Argentine midfielder from Benfica for £107 million in January 2023.
The 25-year-old World Cup winner travelled to Manchester after Chelsea gave him permission to complete his medical and finalise personal terms.
Fernandez reportedly pushed for the move to City, where he will reunite with his former Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca.
The transfer also makes Fernandez the first player in football history to be involved in two separate transfers worth more than £100 million.
Chelsea had already left Fernandez out of their recent matchday squads against Luton in the Carabao Cup and Brighton in the Premier League.
The London club is now working to find a replacement before the transfer window closes.
Chelsea are reportedly negotiating for Roma midfielder Manu Koné and Monaco’s Lamine Camara.
The club is also considering other late Premier League targets ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline.
